Due to my previous years studying Music, Media and Performance Technology, I am not a stranger to researching interaction design and the technologies that surrounds it. I have seen my fair share of fascinating projects that have influenced me greatly. I am not short on ideas so the problem I am having is the area I would like to focus on. As I have said before, I decided to go through some of the previous thesis projects. I have always been quite keen on the manipulation of real time data and how that can be presented in an aesthetically pleasing way. Two projects in recent years that caught my interest were “Brid Bláth” and the “Interactive Visualization To Help Users Understand Irish Road Deaths“. Both of these feature similarities to previous projects I have undertaken  so maybe that is why I am drawn to them. In fact, the Brid Blath project incorporated the same technology I used to create my weather station for my FYP. We did however have different end goals for our use of the data whereby I used real time data to drive an indoor ambient display.

I was very impressed by a lot of the projects and also somewhat jealous. My reason for jealousy mainly stems from the fact that on some level I knew I was going to focus on creating some form of mobile application rather than a cool installation/wearable (which is what the majority of previous projects are). Don’t get me wrong though, mobile application design/development is a skill I have wanted to enhance for many years and I feel a thesis in the area is the perfect moment to drive myself to new levels of design, prototyping, programming  etc. Looking towards the future, I would love a job with in UI or UX design so undertaking extensive study in mobile application (or a similar area) seems like something that will strengthen my  CV. I have loved the time I have spent making my previous projects but I feel for the thesis, I should distance myself (just a little bit) from the artist concept behind what I do and commit myself to extensive research into the user centered design element of products.

With that being said, I have modified my previous proposal. I have not so much changed the proposal but more so given myself a product I aim to create which can co exist with my previous proposal. Have a look on my website to see what I have in mind.
